Profile
AKR is a world leader in polyols and starch derivatives, the largest manufacturer of sorbitol in Asia Pacific and the second largest sorbitol manufacturer in the world. Manufacturing contributes 28% of AKR’s total revenues (in 2006) generated from the combined production capacity of four factories totalling 365,000 MT per annum. AKR operates sorbitol and starch derivative manufacturing facilities in Pasuruan, East Java and Liuzhou, Guangxi province, China. AKR also operates a tapioca starch plant in Ponorogo, East Java and is in the process of commissioning a new starch plant in Lampung, Sumatra which will support the sorbitol operations.

Sorbitol A monosacharide polyhydric alcohol used in cosmetics, toiletries, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, and by the chemical and fishing industries toothpaste, vitamin C, chewing gum, sweeteners, pharmaceuticals
Glucose syrup Obtained by the partial hydrolysis of starch confectionery
Maltodextrine A spray dried starch syrup which partially hydrolize by enzymes powdered milk and food
"Dextrose monohydrate" A purified and crystallized form of D-glucose readily soluble in water confectionery, bakery, and other food
Maltitol Hydrogenated maltose sugar-free foods and beverages
Tapioca Starch Made from cassava; is the raw material for sorbitol textiles, food, and paper

Major Markets
AKR Group products are exported to over 50 countries in all continents including countries such as Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Greece, a number of Asian and Middle East countries.

Our joint-venture with Towa Chemical Industry, Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation, PT. Sorini Towa Berlian Corporindo (STBC), produces sorbitol liquid and powder primarily for the Japanese market.

China is a significant consumer of sorbitol. Realizing the huge potential, we have set up Khalista (Liuzhou) Chemical Industries Ltd. for catering to the domestic needs in China.

Our customers include multinational companies producing Toothpaste, Vitamin C, Pharmaceuticals, and Cosmetics.
