Industry Minister visits Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estates

Jakarta – Industry Minister Mr. Saleh Husin travelled to Gresik as part of his working visit on Sunday 14^th February 2016 and visited Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estates (“JIIPE”).

During the visit, Minister addressed the press by stating that JIIPE which is located in Gresik, East Java, should be a model for the 14 industrial estates which are currently being developed outside Java and will set precedent for other industrial estates in the times to come. He mentioned that JIIPE as the “third generation industrial estate” as it has the potential to become a self-sustaining city with the support of other facilities apart from the industrial estate. “The third generation industrial estate will not only comprise of factories but supported with residential, business, entertainment and sporting facilities” said Saleh during the press release in Gresik. The key competitive advantage of JIIPE lies in the integration of its industrial estate with other infrastructure facilities such as port and toll roads with the objective of reducing “logistics cost”.  

Regarding the suitable tenants for its industrial estate, JIIPE will mainly target chemical and heavy industries for the first phase due to its deep sea port. Currently there are already 2 tenants from the above mentioned industries already commenced construction.  

In order to fulfil its energy needs, JIIPE is planning to build 3 power plants comprises of 15MW gas fired, 500 MW coal fired and 660 MW coal fired power plants that will be built in stages.  

Accompanying the Minister during the visit were Mr Imam Haryono (Director General of Regional Development), Mr Haryanto Adikoesoemo (President Director of AKRA) and Mr Johanes Mardjuki (Managing Director of UEPN). 

The Minister hopes that once fully operational JIIPE will be able to absorb over 100,000 workers and further promote employment opportunities in the region.
