JIIPE: President Jokowi visits Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estates

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (“Jokowi”) travelled to Gresik as part of his working visit on Wednesday 11^th November 2015 and visited Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estates (“JIIPE”).

During the visit, Jokowi addressed the press to stress the importance of JIIPE as to the type of facility that the country needs to address the issue associated with “high logistics cost”. He mentioned that JIIPE will set precedent for other industrial estates in the times to come and one needs to model such facility which are integrated with supporting facilities such as port, power plant and water treatment facilities. He further stated that similar industrial estates will be built in other parts in Indonesia such as Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and West Papua.

Regarding the progress of development at JIIPE, the President praised the fact that reclamation of the first phase of port estate covering 85 ha of land was completed within the short time span of 4 months.

Accompanying the President during the visit were Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo (First Lady), Mr. Soegiarto Adikoesoemo (President Commissioner of AKR Corporindo), Mr. Bambang Soedjianto (Director of AKR Corporindo), Mr. Jarwo Suryanto (President Director of Pelindo III), Mr. Franky Sibarani (Chairman of BKPM) and Mr. Soekarwo (Governor of East Java).

Later during the day, the President held a meeting with representatives from the local Islamic school to promote employment opportunities in the region.
